Presenting...The machine's basic design is for the upper and lower plates to rotate in opposite directions to each other, while the carriers are floating in between an inner and outer stainless steel gearing. The unique rotation ratio between the upper and lower driven lap plates and the rotating inner and outer gears will transmit a 4-way planetary action to the work carriers and work pieces that are being lapped, thus resulting in a balanced force being applied to the work pieces for excellent geometric sizing.
The Model 421/432 is contained in a 3mm stove-enameled steel cabinet (430x530x580mm) and weights approximately 150 lbs. The gear assembly and drive unit are built into a heavy casted aluminum corrosion resistant housing. The bearings, drive shafts and drive gears are made of stainless steel for good longevity. Parts that come into contact with the abrasive slurries are coated with Zylon, or nylon in order to resist corrosion. An optional feed pump can be adapted to the machine, or a bottle feed on top of the grooved plates can be operated by hand. Waste slurry is collected in the aluminum well section beneath the bottom lap plate and is either returned to a waste container, or is recycled to the optional abrasive pump.
The drive unit is on a 30 to 1 ratio with a 125 watt DC drive motor. Power from the DC drive motor is transmitted through a variable-torque clutch which makes for a soft-start to the drive shafts. The electrical supply is normally 220/240 single-phase, 50 hertz, or oder as the 110 volt, 60 hertz version. The drive is of course variable speed and controlled with a Thirster DC controller fitted with an inductive sensor and connected to a programmable digital revolution counter. The control panel is also fitted with a DC meter for a percentage reading of RPM's for the machine's speed. This model is also fitted to adapt a Transat Automatic Lap Controller for auto shut-off and a target setting in MHz.
For larger volume lapping in the low frequency ranges, you'll have available a 32 tooth intermediate lap and polishing machine. And for a VHF process, you'll also have available a 21 tooth lapping or VHF polishing machine. This bench type Model 421/432 is the ideal answer for replacement of pin-lap, or older single lap processes. This innovative lap/polishing machine will give you the proper geometric sizing and flatness that new processes demand in production. It is adaptable to a Transat Auto Lap Counter.

The Model 421/432 is really two machines in one, a 21 teeth version which can contain 7 carriers of 21T gearing. The max capacity as to the workpieces could be up to 1 1/8" or 28mm in diameter. This 421T version is ideal for VHF lapping and polishing down to 1 nil, or 25 microns.
The Model 421/432 can also be the 32 teeth version which could contain up to 9 carriers of 32T gearing. The max capacity as to the workpieces could be up to 2 1/8" or 55mm in diameter. This 432T version is ideal for volume precision lapping down to 3 mil, or 75 microns.

Now you can eliminate graduating down the different grids (from say, 12 micron down to 3 micron) to attain a surface finish of 4 microns by using the Cutting Edge 4.
